Sunrise & BAS Broadcasting Team Up to Fight Cancer

Oct 07, 2021

In the fall of 2020, Sunrise Cooperative, Inc. teamed with BAS Broadcasting for cancer research. The duo combined to donate $100 to the Fueling the Cure initiative for every touchdown scored by a team aired on broadcasted games throughout the season.

On October 1st, prior to kick off between Norwalk High School and Sandusky High School, Sunrise and BAS Broadcasting presented a check for $30,800 that was raised in 2020. Joining in the check celebration was Sunrise Energy Solutions Advisor Pete Mainzer, Sunrise Energy Support Specialist Jen King, Tom Anderson from BAS Broadcasting and Ashley Clark, Director of Community Partners at The Ohio State University. The Fueling the Cure initiative funds are earmarked for the James Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University to fund research to find experimental medicines and food to benefit people affected by cancer.

Sunrise and BAS Broadcasting are teaming up on the gridiron again in 2021. Heading into October they have raised $17,000 towards the Fueling the Cure initiative.

On top of the partnership with BAS Broadcasting, Sunrise donates $2.00 from every propane delivery to cancer research.

Fueling the Cure was initiated in 2009 and is currently supported by four agriculture and energy cooperatives: Sunrise Cooperative, Centerra Co-op, Heritage Cooperative and Premiere Energy. 100% of the funds raised go into the “Cooperatives for the Cure of Cancer,” an endowment fund established in 2011 by the cooperatives at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Each cooperative is committed to donating a $1 per propane delivery stop to cancer research. However, Sunrise Cooperative, through the leadership of President/CEO George D. Secor, have doubled its donation to $2 per delivery stop.

Throughout the past eleven years the cooperatives have merged and changed but the goal to support a cure for cancer has stayed the same. Heading into 2021, over $1.5 million dollars has been raised between the cooperatives.
