Sunrise Cooperative Announces the First Recipient of the RISE FFA Career Program

May 08, 2020

Fremont, Ohio – May 8, 2020 - Sunrise Cooperative, Inc.  is pleased to announce its first recipient of the RISE FFA Career Program is Ethin Bendickson. Ethin is a 2020 graduate from Miami East High School and resides in Troy, Ohio. Ethin was active with the Miami East FFA Chapter serving as the chapter president and secretary. He took part in the Food Science and Dairy Cattle Judging Career Development Events and was the Career Skills Committee chairperson.

Candidates for the RISE FFA Career Program needed to be a 2020 high school graduate that were active with their FFA chapter. They had to submit an application, along with an essay on how the FFA has prepared you for a career with Sunrise Cooperative. The Ohio FFA Foundation reviewed and interviewed the applicants and made the selection of the recipient for a full-time position with Sunrise upon graduation.

“It is our goal to build a strong team of individuals who are creative, out of the box thinkers that have a desire to be successful in their career,” said George D. Secor, Preside/CEO of Sunrise Cooperative. “We believe FFA members are some of the most ambitious and talented young people in the world and that’s why we’re excited to announce Ethin as our first recipient of our RISE FFA Career Program. And we encourage the 2021 seniors to apply this coming school year if you have a desire to work in agriculture after you graduate.”

The RISE FFA Career Program was developed in 2019 and serves two purposes: provide an avenue to reach the future leaders of agriculture, while supporting the Ohio FFA Association State President during their term in office. Starting at the 2019 Ohio FFA Convention, Sunrise committed to providing the Ohio FFA with a new pick-up truck for three years for the state president to drive, and for three years Sunrise has committed to hiring a high school senior that was active with their FFA chapter as a full-time employee at Sunrise that is looking to enter the workforce after high school. As a signing bonus, the new employee would receive the year-old pick-up truck that they state president drive.

The RISE FFA Career Program is a four-year commitment. The first two years will be spent rotating around our entire cooperative. The last two years will have more of a focus on a specific area of interest for the individual. Ethin has begun his professional career with our agronomy division and is located at PCT | Sunrise branch located in Kettlersville.

Sunrise is also excited to present the newly elected 2020-2021 Ohio FFA State President with a new truck to drive around for the next year. Later this month we will officially present the new state FFA president with their truck that she will use this coming year as she drives across the state of Ohio to serve its 25,000 FFA members.
